Everyone looks good in black & white! This desert hairy scorpion was resting under the garbage bin, and was quite livid with being disturbed. The largest species of scorpion in the US, desert hairies can reach lengths of up to 6 inches! These scorpions prefer sandy soils, in which they excavate burrows up to 20′ deep. Although large and intimidating, the sting is extremely mild and is only considered a medical emergency in the case of extreme allergic reactions. Picture Rocks, AZ.
