While cruising through the desert grasslands at least 30 miles from the nearest reliable water, my lovely companion and I came upon this stunning osprey perched atop a telephone pole. Anyone with a bit of bird knowledge can surely appreciate my bewilderment as we made an abrupt U-turn for a better look. Ospreys are almost strictly fish eaters who, aside from unusual mid-migration sightings, are rarely encountered far from water. This experience felt like the real life (making the rather brash assumption of an objective reality) equivalent of the polar bear on the show Lost. This world is full of magic!
