From Sales to Service

Hi there!

For the last…..almost decade (wow, time has flown by) since first becoming captivated by photography, my intention has been largely focused (pun intended) on selling photography prints.  If we’re being completely honest, this has not entirely been what one might call a “successful” endeavor.  I have spent far more money on gear, supplies, and travel than photo sales has ever even come close to bringing in.  Despite the negative connotations of this statement, I feel quite liberated to finally make peace with this truth.  This lack of income has motivated me to move progressively further away from vending,  the anxiety-inducing street fairs now a thing of the past.  The occasional indoor display may still be in the cards, however, my overarching intention is to reduce stress and do my part for curbing materialism, perhaps the most destructive force of our society.

Persuading others to purchase my work translates to more resources being pillaged from the earth.  More trees being toppled, more land being mined, and more material hording are all aspects of our culture from which I wish to remove myself.  None of it is conducive to the survival of our treasured Planet Earth.

For the time being, I will continue to sell off existing inventory and satisfy new purchase requests, but my vision for the future follows a very different path.  It is my intention to move toward education, sharing the lessons I have learned through trial and error on this captivating journey.  I seek projects, paid and otherwise involving ethical photography workshops, long-term work exchange in remote areas surrounded by nature (local or far, far away), documentation for field studies, collaboration, and anything else along these lines!  I cannot emphasize enough how broad this lens (there we go again with the puns) is!  If you have a cabin in the woods and seek documentation on local species or anything quirky along those lines, I’m your guy.  Please do not hesitate to reach out with any projects you may have in mind!  Thank you in advance!
